ANNOUNCING THE RESULTS of the All-Ukrainian Competition for the Best Media Literacy Integration Exercise for 9-10th Grade Students

Ukrainian competition for the best media literacy integration exercise for students of grades 9-10 in the 2023/24 academic year in all educational fields and extracurricular activities.

On 11 April 2023, the jury members met.

The chairman of the commission is Ruslan Shalamov, a teacher at the Kharkiv Regional Scientific Lyceum "Obdarovanist", creative director of the Creative Association "Sunflower", PhD in Biology, Honored Teacher of Ukraine.

Secretary: AUP Project Assistant Yulia Ritsyk.

The meeting was attended by:

Raisa Yevtushenko, Chief Specialist of the Department of Educational Content, Language Policy and Education of National Minorities of the Directorate of Preschool, School, Extracurricular and Inclusive Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, is responsible for the introduction of media education in general secondary education;

Oksana Volosheniuk, researcher at the Department of Screen and Stage Arts and Cultural Studies at the Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;

Oleksandr Mokrohuz, Head of the Department of Social Disciplines and Methods of Teaching Them at the Chernihiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education named after K.D. Ushynskyi, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor.

The exercises submitted to the competition were evaluated according to the following criteria (maximum total score of 160 points):

Criterion 1: Use of a variety of media sources during the exercise, adherence to academic integrity.

Criterion 2: The use of didactic and methodological techniques, forms, methods aimed at integrating and developing students' media literacy skills during the exercise.

Criterion 3: Practical orientation for further use in the educational process.

Criterion 4: Demonstration of critical thinking about the content of media sources and information sources during the exercise.

Out of 154 applications submitted to the All-Ukrainian competition for the best media literacy integration exercise for 9-10th grade students, 17 exercises were selected as winners, namely:

History exercise "Koryukivka - 1943: Anatomy of a Crime, White Spots, Historical Parallels" by Oleksandr Vdovin, a teacher of history and jurisprudence, director of the Nyzhnioduvansky Lyceum of the Nyzhnioduvansky Village Council of the Svatovsky District of Luhansk Oblast, which was rated at 160 points;

Ukrainian language exercise "Use of words in an unusual meaning. Neologisms of War " by Halyna Dehtiariova, Head of the Department of Methods of Teaching Languages and Literature, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences of the Municipal Higher Educational Institution "Kharkiv Academy of Continuing Education", which was rated at 159 points;

the mathematics exercise "Probability and Achievements of Ukrainians" by Victoria Ganenko, a mathematics teacher at the Zaporizhzhia Jewish Gymnasium "ORT=Alef", which was rated at 153 points;

history exercise "The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in Various Sources of Information" by Anna Syzova, a history teacher at the Lyceum "Erudite" of the Pervomaisk City Council of Mykolaiv Oblast, which was rated at 151 points;

geography exercise "The Tertiary Sector of the World's Economy" by Veronika S. Vinivitieva, a geography teacher at Kryvyi Rih Secondary School No. 31, which was awarded 150 points;

media education exercise "Media Literate about Small Arms" by Yulia Zorya, Head of the Training Centre of the Municipal Educational Institution "Cherkasy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education of Teachers of the Cherkasy Regional Council", which was rated at 150 points;

the biology exercise "Research Media Workshop "Use of GMOs: Fake or Like?" by Iryna Kovtutska, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, biology teacher at Chernyatyn Gymnasium, Severynivka Village Council, Vinnytsia Oblast, which was rated at 150 points;

the art exercise "Critical Look" by the art teacher of the Voronovytskyi Lyceum in Vinnytsia region, Maya Taraniuk, which was rated at 148 points;

History lesson "Analysis of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of 23 August 1939" by Iryna Taran, a teacher of history and jurisprudence at Cherkasy secondary school No. 32 of the Cherkasy City Council of Cherkasy Oblast, which was rated at 146 points;

the Ukrainian language and literature exercise "Lie Detector" by Iryna Sitkova, a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature at the Grono Lyceum of the Lviv City Council, which was rated at 145 points;

the History Moodboard exercise by Olena Viktorivna Taranych, a history teacher at the Berezotytska secondary school of the Lubny City Council of the Lubny district of Poltava region, which was rated at 145 points;

the computer science exercise "Trust and Check" by Lesia Parandiy, a teacher of mathematics and computer science at the Novovelidnytsia Lyceum of the Slovechansk Village Council of Zhytomyr Oblast, which was rated at 144 points;

computer science exercise "Patriotic Literary Fakes and Manipulations: Good or Evil?" by Olena Tsymmerman, a computer science teacher at Zaporizhzhia Gymnasium No. 62, which was rated 144 points;

the Ukrainian language, Ukrainian and foreign literature exercise "Creating a journalistic blog" by Halyna Romanivna Vivchariuk, a teacher of Ukrainian language, Ukrainian and foreign literature at the Hlynky secondary school of the Mamayivka village council, which was rated at 143 points;

the computer science exercise "Dispelling Fakes" by Halyna Antonivna Dzhulynska, a teacher of mathematics and computer science at the Pidhaitsi secondary school, which was rated at 143 points;

the Ukrainian language and literature exercise "Learning to Recognise Hate Speech in the Media" by Marina Kolomiets, a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature and deputy director for educational work at the Mykolaiv Law Lyceum of the Mykolaiv City Council of the Mykolaiv Region, which was rated at 143 points;

Work-based learning and technology exercise "Pysanka is a symbol of Ukraine. "As long as they make Easter eggs, there will be peace, and when they stop, the world will end." Olga Makhinko, a teacher of labour education and technology at Secondary School No. 77 in Lviv, Ukraine, who was evaluated for her work in the field of Makhinko Olga Kirovna, a teacher of labour training and technology at Secondary Secondary School No. 77 in Lviv with in-depth study of economics and management with Ukrainian as the language of instruction, who was awarded 143 points.

The winners of the competition will receive first-degree diplomas and an author's fee.

All lesson plans submitted to the competition and scoring above 30 points out of 160 will be posted on the Media Literacy Lesson Toolbox for Teachers https://toolbox.medialiteracy.org.ua/ (subject to the consent of the authors), and their authors will receive certificates from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Academy of Ukrainian Press.
